OTHER IMPORTANT STUFF

COVERED LIQUIDS  Effective immediately, during all open sewing periods and classes, all liquids brought in or prepared in the Sewing Room must be kept in a COVERED container.  If you have prepared coffee or tea in the Sewing Room, there are insulated cups with covers available for your use.  If you bring any liquid into the Sewing Room, you must provide your OWN covered container and store your liquid in that container.  Your container must be leakproof and spillproof.  The only exception is cold water from the water cooler.  Please refrain from bringing open water glasses to your tables.  Water bottles should be capped while at the tables.

NOMINATING COMMITTEE -  Marilynn  Barbour at site 534 has volunteered to head the Nominating Committee.  A slate of candidates will be presented at our annual meeting on February 23rd.  This year candidates are needed for a 2 year term to fill the Program Coordinator position currently held by Mary Williams.  We also need to fill a 2 year term for the Monitor Coordinator position currently held by Jean Prevost.  To qualify you must be available in the Park from November 1 through March 31.  You must also have computer skills and a working printer as each job requires scheduling, preparing the monthly calendar and/or monitor list.  If you would like a copy of the Job Description for these positions, call June Griepp at 7281 or email her at jgriepp@integra.net.  We would like to see several candidates for each position, so please consider submitting your name to the Nominating Committee.  If you don’t, they will come looking for you and the scene may not be pretty.

FLU SEASON –Unfortunately, it is Cold and Flu Season.  If you don’t feel well or have symptoms of a cold or flu, please refrain from coming to the sewing room or attending our weekly meetings.  As much as we love having you around, hopefully your absence while you’re sick will help curb an epidemic and keep the rest of us healthy  Thanks for your consideration.

QUILT SHOW UPDATE

QUILT SHOW ENTRIES  Our Quilt Show on February 18th is fast approaching.  Entry Forms are available in the Rack in the Sewing Room DUE MONDAY, FEBRUARY 6TH.  NO LATE ENTRIES WILL BE ACCEPTED.  All sewers (including our very beginner sewers)  are encouraged  to enter their treasures.  This includes clothing items, totes or purses, table runners, doll s and doll clothes, unique items you may have made in a class, items you brought from home or even items you may have made a few years ago.,  Crocheted or knitted items are entered through Barbara Nelson of Yarns and Threads.  Community Quilts or Quilts of Valor do not need an Entry Form.  New this year are Row by Row entries.  If you picked up a Row By Row kit from a quilt shop you visited, be sure to enter it whether it is in a full quilt or an individual Row.  Also new is the “This Is Where I Live” challenge.  If you have a small piece that depicts where you live, be sure to include it in this category.  Also, new this year is an Entry Form requirement for Dolls and Doll Clothes.  Please see Betty Brake for your Entry Form (or click and download).   Remember, a separate Entry Form is required for each item.  All quilts must have a 3-4” sleeve on the back for hanging purposes.  Your sleeve can be pinned on or sewn.  It does not have to be a permanent sleeve.  You must also have some form of identification on the back of your quilt.

QUILT SHOW STAGING ITEMS – Debra Byers along with Pat Marble are heading up the Staging and Design of the show.  They need your help by lending small tables such as end tables, hall or entry tables, benches, rocking chairs,  large floor standing non-breakable vases or vessels, and large wicker baskets.   These items should be delivered to the canopy area outside the Santan Room on Friday, February 17th.   PLEASE BE SURE TO IDENTIFY EACH PIECE YOU LEND WITH YOUR NAME AND SITE NUMBER.

QUILT SHOW CHINESE AUCTION AND SILENT AUCTION.  Please consider donating an item for our major fund raising events.  We welcome all hand made items such as quilts, table runners, placemats, totes, purses, jewelry or other unique crafted gift items.  In addition, we welcome gift certificates from local businesses, and golf items (for the men in attendance)   Several donation bins have been placed under the Accuquilt table in the Sewing Room.   Drop off your donations at your convenience.  Gift Certificates should be delivered directly to Darlene Norton, Nancy Duitsman or Donna Gregoire.

QUILT SHOW VOLUNTEERS – If you have not yet volunteered to help with the setting up or to work at the show, there is still time to sign up.  This is a great way for some of our new members to get to know their fellow sewers .  It is fun to be part of the action!!  There are plenty of “seasoned” gals to show you the ropes.  Remember, if you use and enjoy our beautiful sewing room, you owe it to yourself and the rest of the group to participate in this important fund raiser.

QUILT SHOW QUILT RACKS.  We ordered 5 Craftgard quilt racks plus some additional crossbars and they have arrived!!  These racks will give us the ability to hang an additional 12 quilts on racks instead of using tables.

Luncheon –February 9thOur Valentine’s luncheon will be a potluck after the meeting on February 9th.  Linda Dey and Charlotte Duckett are heading up this event.  A signup sheet will be on the desk in the Sewing Room soon so watch for it.  You don’t need to tell them what you are bringing, just a head count so they can plan for the right amount of tables, etc.  It sounds like they have some amazing and fun things planned, so be sure to sign up.

Start Time is 10:00 a.m.  Just a reminder that the Sewing Room opens at 10 a.m. each day.  Please do not enter the Sewing Room before 10 a.m. unless you are taking a class that starts at 10 a.m. or before.  The monitors have been instructed to lock the door until 10 a.m.  This allows the monitors time to complete their tasks before you all come rolling in.   Your cooperation is extremely appreciated.

Block of the Week Quilt Name Winner  -- Congratulations to Lois Kunkle whose title of “X-Box” was selected as the new Quilt Name for the Block of the Week.  Lois received a Table Runner as a gift for the winning entry.

Cubbies and Lockers  Joan Salter reported that there are 120 spaces in the Sewing Room for Sewing Machines.  All of these spaces are occupied.  After a bit of shuffling we were able to come up with some additional space under the cutting table to accommodate several gals who were on the waiting list.  Additionally, some of the gals who rarely use the sewing room graciously gave up their space for our newcomers.  If you are one of those gals who has your sewing machine in a space but uses the sewing room less than once or twice a week, please consider giving up your space to someone who wishes to use the room more often.  You will be forever loved.

Also, who owns the Red Canvas Bag that is in one of the Stash Lockers?????  We opened it up at our sewing mtg. and it has an assortment of really nice fabric.  One item had a note for the measurements for a pillow case.  It is on one of our Precious stash shelves, with no name.  Please call Joan Salter at 6467, otherwise it just may end up in the community quilt pile.

Sewing Room Requests.   If you need to make a request of any kind (except sewing machine repair), for items needed in the Sewing Room, a notebook in the top drawer by the signin sheet is available for this purpose.  June will check the book periodically and handle your request.  Be sure to be specific, date and sign your request along with your phone no.
